| This is a sidescrolling shooter game. You play as Ignitia (pronounced "ig-nit-ee-ah", not "ig-nish-ah"), a heat-based creature dishing out fiery hell on enemy soldiers. Of course there's more to it than that, but the story is already written in the game. So blah. Read it there. :P Your body temperature plays a role in the game, seeing as how you're a heat-based creature; it will function as your special shot "ammo", and your health will gradually decrease if your temperature reaches 0 (as in, too cold for a heat-based creature). Also, certain levels have certain temperatures, which will either raise or decrease your temperature constantly. Your enemies consist of various soldiers with a variety of different weapons and defenses. Also, there are many enemy machines that will act as obstacles during the level, in addition to the soldiers. If you have any questions, please email me. A small number of people who have tried my games say they get an unexpected error, and can't run it. This doesn't happen often, and I don't know what the cause is. Since it only happens to a few people, and not everyone, it's hard to know what it is; I've never gotten it myself. But these are the system requirements to run Game Maker 6 (the program I use to make games), so maybe they're the same requirements to run a Game Maker GAME too. So read over this before you download. My guess for the people that get the unexpected error is that they're not running a Windows computer. |
"Game Maker runs on the Windows platform, versions 98 SE, 2000, ME, XP (and later). It does require a DirectX 8 or higher compatible graphics graphics card with at least 16MB of video memory (preferably 32 MB or more). Also a DirectX 8 or higher compatible sound card is required. DirectX version 8.0 or later is required." Make sure you read the textfile "IMPORTANT-Read before playing" BEFORE YOU START THE GAME. Hence the title. And be sure to read the help screen in the game, which has multiple pages. The Dying Flame (full version); 7.76 MB Developer's Cut This is pretty much my ultimate had-things-cut-out-of-the-final-version game. Originally, this was going to have story elements similar to The Reaper. A beginning and end narrative with a bunch of still image art, and dialogue scenes between levels. But, this was a LOT of extra work (mainly because of all the pictures I'd have to draw), and not many people were playing the demo when it was out. Frankly, it wasn't good for motivation. I wasn't about to spend a ton of time doing extra work towards a game that few people seemed interested in. |
In fact, I was about to scrap the project completely. But I had most of the gameplay done already, before I released the demo, that it would've been a waste NOT to finish. So I finished it anyway. Just in a modified form. The story, while still there, is presented as just text; no flashy presentation or detail. And the story itself was simplified too. Originally, it had a mystery element to it, with the answer not appearing until the end (logically...duh), told through a lengthy narrative/dialogue with a bunch of art. Sadly, I didn't have the drive to go that far with the little interest being shown by audiences. Rough character designs of unused characters. Most of them were to be bosses. ![]() Rough drawings of a few of the intro images. ![]() Unused portraits of some of the characters. ![]() This was going to be the first boss, but bosses were cut out completely. ![]() These were going to be supporting characters for Ignitia, who would sell permanent equipment and other things. Equipment was cut from the game entirely, but replaced with powerups.
If you're still here, you must genuinely want to see what could've been. Or maybe you're bored. Anyway, here's the last segment of the Developer's Cut; the story that was planned. There was a place called The Core, in your kingdom's castle. This was a place of unbeliveably hot temperature. Soldiers would come here to train while they absorb the massive heat energy, raising their power. The Igneon warriors mentioned in the game went berserk with power from absorbing too much energy, and becoming blind with power. So they attack Tyrodeka, and the war starts, like in the game. The game starts with you in The Core. You enter into the castlehalls, and find the enemy soldiers have invaded the castle. You kill them off, and exit the castle. But strangely, the outside world is cold. The extreme heat is gone (like in the game). You don't know what has happened, but you find that the enemy has taken advantage of this and slaughtered the planet. You're one of the only Igneons left alive. You go out and seek revenge on all the enemies for killing your people. At the end, when you've taken everyone down, including the mothership and the King and Queen of the planet that attacked you, an Igneon warrior appears. He's one of the ones that went berserk, attacked the planet Tyrodeka, and started this war. Tyrodeka captured him, and were about to kill him. But they instead offered him a deal. If he would absorb Ghemido's (your planet) sun (because the Igneons can absorb fire), and take it out completely to leave the planet in the cold, they would let him live. So he did it. You, finding out that HE is the one who doomed this planet, and want to kill him for what he's caused. But with all the fire he's absorbed from the sun, he's virtually unstoppable. Besides, this is an opponent where you DON'T fight fire with fire. So, you spot a huge Heat-Transformer machine (transforms fire into ice) in the mothership wreckage. These machines were in the game, but smaller. You attack him with your fire, and he's wondering what the hell you're doing, shooting fire at a fire creature. Turns out you're blasting away at him to knock him into the giant Heat-Transformer. So you do, and you kill him. Now, your planet is lifeless. The remaining enemy soldiers flee, seeing that you've killed their King and Queen. You wander the planet in grief. None of your people are left alive. With nothing to lose, you're blinded with anger, and return to The Core, absorbing the whole thing, becoming unstoppable like the Igneon warrior that absorbed the sun. Then you shoot off and head for the enemy planet Tyrodeka, ready to lay waste to the entire population, just like they did to you. The End. |
